"From 2003"..... when life on earth started.
Abramovich was very close to Yeltsin and is a VERY close Putin buddy (whom Abramovich gifted a multi-million $35-$50 million yacht for his birthday) who got rich along with other Russian oligarchs around the same time. Corruption, extortion, assassinations from that group.....yeah, a real stand up guy for sure. 
And the UK visa was probably going to be denied and Abramovich did not want to face questions in court about how he made his money.
Someone defending Abramovich on DU. Never thought I'd see it. But...2020.
