I think that we (at least outside Northern Ireland) are sometimes insufficiently aware of the Christian Right's potential for troublemaking in the Uk. it's not on the level of the American 'Bible Belt', certainly. But I won't forget 2010, when 'pro-lifers' smeared and helped to defeat my MP Evan Harris, calling him Dr. Death, and the Rev. George Pitcher wrote an article on the Telegraph headed 'The best result of the election. Let us rejoice that Evan Harris has lost his seat'. An earlier MP for my area, John Patten, was a fairly disastrous Tory Education Secretary in the 90s. who once blamed juvenile delinquency and school indiscipline on the fact that *too few people believe in Hell*. (This is a marginal, seemingly-liberal constituency, which later voted overwhelmingly for Remain.)

Nortthern Ireland has always of course suffered badly from the Christian Right. I thought no one could be worse than the Paisleys, until 2024 when Paisley Jr lost his seat to nutty Jim Allister.

But the situation has defiinitely got worse since the American and British religious-righties have collaborated increasingly online, and have fused increasingly with the racists,
