The EU, as presently constituted has plenty of faults - too bureaucratic; too inflexible and bad at dealing with the diversity of the member states; too many people on a gravy train.

BUT getting out would be worse. It would mean economic chaos at a time when the economy is problematic anyway; less trade. We would not be more independent, but more dependent on leaders outside the EU, who are often less democratic; e.g. Putin; the Chinese government - and Trump if godforbid he were to be elected. And the British politicians and media types who back Brexit are mostly hard-right: they aren't pro-Brexit because they think the EU are too inflexible or too pro-austerity; they are pro-Brexit because Europe is full of bloody foreigners and if we got out we might have fewer bloody immigrants. I do not want to increase their power in the UK - if there even is a UK after a 'Leave' vote; Scotland, who are very pro-Remain might well choose remaining in the EU over remaining in the UK.
