Need help with a computer not recognizing a monitor [View all]

I got a new computer about six months ago. My older computer was working fine when I put it in the closet. Today I tried to hook it up to use a program that is on it that isn't compatible with Windows 7 but I could get a monitor to get a signal. I tried two different monitors and two different cables and all one monitor does is go into sleep mode and all the other does (the one I previously used on the old computer) doesn't do anything.

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how to correct it?
