When you go to save a file in each of your graphics programs and it opens an instance of Windows Explorer, before you save, can you go to the View tab from the top menu and select Details rather than Thumbnails? I'm not sure if those directions are correct and hope someone with XP will jump in but after selecting Details for that folder it should be remembered the next time you open it.
