6. Vista was just another installment...

...which I characterize as a M$ "gamma" release. A gamma release IMHO is one where M$ allows the innovation nerds loose on the build and sells the result. Such releases are replete with hinkey issues such as slow operation, compatibility issues and, my personal favorite driver dearth (DD). Allowing all the changes tends to act as a filter and have two effects: first, folks who've paid for the software or bought hardware with it installed are more anxious to get the new improved (and actually functional) OS. Second, the innovations that work (i.e. the ones that don't generate major objections) stay in. Win8, start button gone, metro added. People hated that so start was brought back.

Often, releases that follow what I think of as gamma releases, don't have so much in the way of actual new features, they just lack the hated aspects of the gammas.

This practice takes advantage of consumerism, that feeling we get to need something new every few years like a car. Ever notice that each new version of windows always incorporates changes to the GUI?

To answer your question, I didn't hate Vista or 8, I just avoided them.
