Go into your Mail, Calender settings and turn off the following...
Remote Images = off
Email Preview = off

That will display the Sender (From) and Subject of the email... Effectively, Headers Only.
The email will only get downloaded if you open it.
That should drastically reduce your bandwidth usage while communicating through your email app.
