Losing network connection [View all]

On my laptop I keep getting booted off my network connection. When I look at the modem it is flashing red and the error message says "can't connect to the network" or something like that. It only does this on my Acer laptop and only started doing this about 2 weeks ago. I have another older laptop and have no problems with getting booted off the network. I called AT&T(internet) and the tech said I needed a new modem to the tune of $100. How can one laptop start doing this and not the other. Any help is appreciated.
