..i did say not to use an air compressor. the pressure in the canned stuff isn't strong enough to do any damage. in fact, it's a little too soft and directed to get the job done right. removing the straw helps as the can then diffuses the pressure across the fan rather than at a particular point.

a reversible shop-vac works best .. set to blow it will spin the fans just-so.. at a lower velocity than they are designed to spin, but fast enough to clean the blades themselves, not to mention the circuit board inside the power supply, of dust.
