Need advice on HP 5514 printer on an HP Pavillion running windows 8 [View all]

yes I know it is awful...but I'm needing help

Our old pavillion died at the end of spring, it was running on vista with this same printer. In prepping for the start of school the SO hit a snag...

It turns out the SCAN function of the printer isn't working from the printers touch screen...I get a message that I'm not connected to the computer...and that I should make sure the printer is installed on the computer and that a toggle is checked to allow scanning from the computer.

The print manager tells me the printer is installed and functioning properly, I can't find a menu that has the toggle allowing scanning from the computer.

On the old system under VISTA I went to 'Picture Gallery' and used "import from scanner" function when I wanted to scan but I can't find a similar function for Windows 8. I can't find anything similar to that in Windows 8.

Any suggestions?

First thought - Do you have the drivers for Windows 8 loaded? RC Aug 2013 #1

I have a HP Office Pro 8600 and it seem so to prefer the wireless route. RC Aug 2013 #3
