11. The system this happened on was Win 7 64 bit.............

Although this last round of IE updates appears to be occasionally acting strangely on other windows platforms.
What is interesting is the system this happened on is at IE 11. After I reinstalled I attempted to download the patch and install manually. It refused to install saying it was not for Win 7.
WTF, then why did automatic updates try it in the first place?

Their are equivalent but different patches for other combinations of Windows and IE.
I can only take a guess here but I think at some point they may have selected the wrong combination and hashed a few systems up.
Microsoft is usually pretty good at getting this right but 'accidents happen in the best of familys'.

This patch is a good first place to look and we can take it from there.
