Two questions about El Capitan [View all]

I upgraded on my older computers in anticipation of buying a new one (a 27" iMac on sale!), but I have two minor problems with El Capitan.

1. When I open an application, I get a "notification" sound, like the one I am accustomed to hearing when I have Mail open and a new message arrives. I've looked at the Sound preferences and I can't find a way to turn it off.

2. When I start up, I get a dialogue boss saying "allow access by EEvents?" I don't even know what that is, and although the dialogue box says I can turn this off with the Firewall preferences, I can't figure out how to do that.

Anybody have answers?
