9. Doing better among moderates. He barely won the indy vote in 2008, according to exit polls.

He won more because more Democrats voted than Republicans - the 2008 electorate was 39% Democratic, 32% Republican, and 29% independent/other parties.

There's another poll taken recently that showed Obama leading Romney by 51-41 among independents - and 68-27 among moderates. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/01/17/1055631/-PPP:-President-Obama-opens-up-lead-over-Mitt-Romney

The narrowness of Obama's margin over McCain among indies - plus the discrepancy between moderates and independents polls like this one - only help to confirm what I have long thought: That many independents aren't true independents, but merely call themselves independents publicly only to vote straight Republican in the privacy of a voting booth.
