school and my mom giving us the sad news.

I am in the minority of Americans who believe Oswald acted alone in killing JFK. I base that on decades of interest in the case that reached a final determination when I read Bugliosi's Reclaiming History (I recommend it if you have a month to spare...it's a mammoth tome).

Most Americans believe the conspiracy theories about the case, which is unfortunate on many levels. First, because to believe thus, one must ignore the mountains of scientific evidence that confirm Oswald's guilt as the lone gunman. And second, a simple murder case has spawned a huge distrust in our government and has given license to all sorts of crazy ideas to flourish in our tabloid-driven reality. Much of Sanders appeal - his "us v them, secret powers are afoot to destroy your life" mantra - couldn't exist were not the electorate pre-disposed to believing in wide-ranging conspiracies that find their genesis in the myths surrounding the JFK killing.

I firmly believe that until the JFK myths are put to bed, our citizens will continue to be susceptible to the wildest ideas imaginable. And that will continue to fuel the Trumps and Sanders of the world, while more-reasonable people and their reasonable ideas are attacked as being "establishment propaganda" designed solely to divert people's attention from the evil lurking behind their doors.
