8. One problem, as was noted in the article, is that a lot of his supporters are political neophytes.

They don't understand context because either this is their first rodeo or they haven't bothered to become familiar with political history or the history of the topics they incessantly rant about. They don't understand that DOMA was a bad alternative in a sea of worse ones. They don't understand that the crime bill was passed because people were in a bit of a panic at the violent crime rates - and nearly everyone was behind it, including, hypocritically enough, one Bernard Sanders.

Since they have little concept of context or history of these events, it's easy to sell them the Speak-and-Spell version and expect them not to question it. More seasoned political viewers understand context, because many of us have been politically active for decades. In many cases, they are events that we lived through. For those we didn't, we've been doing this political junkie thing for a long time and have learned much about them along the way. Nothing is ever black and white.
