Hawai'i was still a Territory when my family moved there, and I had a child's-eye view of the Statehood debate. Even though it has become controversial in the past couple of decades, and believe me when I say I understand why that is, at the time it was a very urgent consideration of our powerlessness vis a vis the US government and the benefits of full citizenship.

If the US is going to hold offshore territories for whatever reason, we should be meticulous in our treatment of the people who live there.

I am glad Hillary gets that. I'm not really surprised that Senator "One Size Fits All" doesn't really.
