(35,622 posts)What if Trump is the nominee? Will the Koches then be spending another $887 million? I think not.
Trump was supposed to crash and burn a long time ago. He's still going strong and the only thing different is that Carson is coming up close on him. Meanwhile, Jeb Bush has slashed the salaries of his campaign execs. So it may very well be that the republican nominee is someone so far out of the mainstream that traditional republican techniques will not be able to be employed.
Without traditional republican techniques of sliming, books by such sleazebags as Jerome Corsi, and all the rest of their time-honored tricks, the republicans could be in a bit of quandary. What do they do?
Now, given this situation, if Hillary is the Democratic choice, she becomes the consummate corporate candidate. She's the establishment. So we are then in the position of having an erratic, completely uncontrollable republican running against someone who is quite happy to take big corporation donations. The Democrats then become the conventional and the republicans are the unconventional.
It seems quite apparent, with the support for Trump and Carter and the support for Bernie, that the voters are pretty sick of establishment politics.
As crazy as Trump is, when the selection is winnowed down, he may attract a sizable group of independents, especially if the Democratic candidate is a proven corporate supporter.
Now, I am well aware that Clinton enjoys a sizable lead over Bernie. But what also has to be taken into consideration is the trend of what happens when Bernie goes into a state where Clinton has a sizable lead. He whittles it down quite nicely. So in other words, the trend is that, state-by-state, voters hear Bernie's message and respond to it.
It appears that some people think that is only going to happen in a few states and that's the end of that. Well, I don't think that's the case.
All I'm really saying here is that I see trends, and these trends aren't changing. Everyone thinks they will. Trump can't possibly stay in the race. Well, yes, he can. Bernie can't possibly keep up his track record. Well, yes, he can.
What I'd like to know is just what is going to change this situation? Why will these trends stop? What will cause an abrupt turnaround and cause the respective nominations to be somebody like Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton? Why would that happen??
