(68,868 posts)But the GOP establishment understands that the only GOP candidate that may have a chance over Hillary would be Rubio.....
He's their only remote chance at this point! So they will try hard to float him up to the top, although there is a big gasbag already up there called Trump who is literally out of their control!
However, even with a Rubio, they know that any unforeseen and uncontrollable National policy occurrence that would most likely happen, would actually help Hillary, and make Rubio look like the high-heel wearing crazy wild eye little boy Hawk that he is. That's another of the things that makes Hillary more electable in the general than a conscientious war objector such as Sanders. We are living in the times of terrorism, whether we want to or not, and no matter what some might say about Hillary's wrong call on her war vote (yep, she's not perfect), she still has the most proven experience in that arena with her stint as Sec of State, bar none, and they know damn well that she would do what she would have to if it came down to it! Had she not held that position, she might have some issues.....but as it is, compared to the rest of the candidates, she's got that one pretty well covered.
On the economic front, there is nothing more frightening to investors (both national and International) in our stock market and the world economy than the unpredictable! Currently, apart from Hillary, all of the other front runners of both parties are running as unpredictable unknown quantities! We pretty much get that many of the establishment Republicans are deathly afraid of a Trump or Cruz presidency! Even they don't know how their wealth would fare under those two! Like the GOP's own Lindsey Graham stated, the top GOP pics are a choice of taking poison or being stabbed to death.
I'm not economically naive (as I am an accountant) and therefore understand that many of them certainly would secretly vote for Hillary (no matter that Sanders supporters believe otherwise) or just stay home, because at least no matter their predisposed dislike of her, if nothing else, they know Hillary is more of a known quantity (many remember Bill's 8 years), and that she isn't running to turn the government upside down and inside out, while the others are...and Precisely because after 8 years of Obama, many will find the status quo to be more acceptable than gamble on the total unknown. That means that whether Trump or Cruz; the GOP lose many moderate fiscally conservative GOP voters.
