The auto bailout only bill that Sanders voted for got no GOP votes and died. So the auto bailout money got slipped into the TARP bill, for which there were just enough GOP votes for passage. And time was of the essense. We were hemorrhaging 700,000 jobs a month. Our economy was collapsing. We had no time to wait for the perfect bill--and no expectation that that GOP would vote for a perfect bill. The GOP had already voted down the perfect bill.

There is no "probably would have." It is you who is making up history.

Legislative compromise in a democracy is all about taking diamonds with the poo. It's called governing.
