(3,709 posts). . . the following sentence was posted in a "bold" typeface, viz:
Paul Wellstone would later call this injustice against the people of Sierra Blanca a case of "environmental racism.
Therefore, it seemed only proper that attention be given to the actual waste dumped at Sierra Blanca---namely, sewage from New York---rather than what might have been dumped---low-level nuclear waste (80% from Texas, 10% from Maine, & 10% from Vermont)---nuclear waste that was not dumped . . . not dumped because people protested.
Thank you, nevertheless, for all of the links you posted. I've read through some of them and bookmarked other links to look at later. If nothing else, those links helped me to understand that Sanders was only one of 23 sponsors of HR629---17 of those sponsors from Texas, 2 from Maine, 1 from Louisiana, 1 from North Carolina, & 1 from Vermont---not to mention that HR629 was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. Does that make all of those sponsors plus the members of Congress who voted for the bill and the then-President advocates of "environmental racism"? If not, why not?
You said that what I wrote was "off topic" as if to suggest that you're willing to dismiss or ignore the fact that New York's sewage dumped in Sierra Blanca created a very real environmental problem for that community . . . a very real environmental problem caused, back then, knowingly or unknowingly, with every flush of a New York toilet. Does that mean New Yorkers who pooped and flushed deserve to be accused of "environmental racism"? How about the Clintons? I mean: Didn't they move to New York in 1999, at a time when the "poop trains" were still headed for Sierra Blanca?
Oh, but that's different . . . because it's off-topic . . . right? (** sigh **)
