CBS app is a paid service ($6 monthly) but their back-catalog + current shows is impressive. (We did the free trial, but chose not to subscribe)
The ABC app is free ... functional but limited, not as extensive as CBS.
HBO-Now & Showtime apps: Subscription-based, but the monthly fees are less than the add-on fees to add them to basic cable or satellite.
Walking Dead ... they're available on Amazon (eventually) but you'll miss out on Talking Dead post-shows.
I think (but I'm not certain) that there's a CNN app that lets you pick-n-choose individual stories to watch (rather than entire streaming broadcasts).
Also, if you dig deep in the Roku app choices, you can often find local live streaming news. For some of them, you have to "tune in" at the correct time, otherwise it's dead-air ... or if it's not real-time "live" it's 30-minute delayed rebroadcast of the day's local news.
We use Netflix, Amazon and Roku to supplement our Verizon service. It would take some major adjustments to be a "streaming only" household. I'd miss AMC, TCM and BBCA. (Although, I do have one friend who is Apple TV only. She and her husband and two kids are quite content with ONLY their streaming AppleTV device, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and over-the-air.)
