38. Hmm, he's arrogant, but I'm not sure how to parse it.

I mean, I've never agreed with the stereotype of the "arrogant
youth/greenhorn/newbie/whatever" all the same as I've never
agreed with the flip side...the arrogant, inflexible, stay the course
long-timer. Arrogance is a trait, and like Bernie, I'm sure most who
exhibit it carry it throughout their lives.
Bernie's not arrogant because he's, in effect, making suggestions
(not really) or pointing out problems in the D party (maybe a bit)...
he's arrogant because that's just who he is...and that makes his
non-suggestions and statements as obviously empty and
disingenuous as they really are. His attitude regarding what
he thinks the party should do leaves a bad taste in the mouth,
not because the arrogance (though it sure doesn't help) but
because it's becoming obvious he doesn't actually give a damn
about the party.

In the general, what pisses me off about the "know it all" newbie
isn't that they are new, complaining, or making suggestions...but
when their motivations for doing so are questionable...when really,
they're just nitpicking to score points.
Bernie's motives for all this are pretty questionable...his comments
strike as empty, and we all know he's desperate to score any points
he can.

A newcomer with a new perspective can be very useful...valuable...
when their comments are genuine.
I will admit, there are many in my cohort that do not yet get this,
and I feel like there may be something about the times we've grown
up in that has fostered this "nitpick for points" attitude, especially
in those predisposed to arrogance.

In fact, someone might argue that my own post walks that line,
or close to it...though the comments are meant in good faith.
