And I don't know enough about it - the media has *always* told a distorted story about not just Venezuela, but Latin America as a whole - and I'll no doubt have to wait for some real reportage, some honest analysis.

But I have no respect whatsoever for those DUers who are creaming in their jeans over the violence, eager for a coup (while affirming that they are not), while showing a total disinterest and disdain for putting these events into historical or cultural context. While flatly denying history. I have no respect for those several here in this particular group who deny history entirely, in particular the history of their own country's terrorist activities throughout what it calls, in the proprietary way that it has of describing things, its "back yard". As if there's no connection, as if in spite of all evidence there's been some "change" - and as if the only thing that matters is getting worked up in hate for the democratically elected left.

It makes me sick that these right-wingers refuse to acknowledge the humanity of the largely native majority of poor, who have benefited from the gov't they elected and support, while echoing the complaints of the rich and the hangers-on of the rich.
