Don't stab them through the mouth with a hook, then yank on it constantly and painfully for as long as it takes for the fish to become exhausted and overwhelmed with pain, and then pull it out of the water and temporarily asphyxiate it, and then drop it back in, wounded and utterly exhausted and half-dead.
