Bolivian president tells OAS head not to interfere in Venezuela

LA PAZ, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales on Wednesday urged Luis Almagro, secretary-general of the Organization of American States (OAS), not to become an instrument in foreign interventions in Venezuela.

"Before Barack Obama Today Luis Almagro is attacking us. Brother Almagro, do not become an instrument of interventionism against the revolutionary people of Venezuela," wrote Morales on Twitter on Wednesday.

The president said that the activation of the OAS' Inter-American Democratic Charter (IDC) would be illegitimate and affect democracy in Venezuela.

On Tuesday, Almagro called for a meeting of the OAS member states in June to discuss the current situation of Venezuela.

The meeting will discuss the possibility of activating the IDC for Venezuela, an instrument which has been activated only twice ever -- in 2002 for an attempted coup against former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and in 2009 for a coup.
