in Miami, and they used to riot and go wild when Cuban bands tried to play dates in Miami, and crowds would gather, throwing frozen cans of Coca Cola, D cell batteries, rocks, even Glad Bags filled with human excrement at bands like Los Van Van, while cursing and using obscenities at men and their companions trying to get in to see them, with occasional victims hauled off to the hospital.
So damned sick.

From the Miami Herald.

Emilio Milián's car

Years after, Miami commissioners named a street for him.

"Emilio Milian lost his legs in a 1976 car bombing allegedly by one of the men -- Gaspar Jimenez -- now accused of attempting the same thing on Fidel Castro; Miami Bishop Agustin Roman wants "mercy" for Jimenez
COURTESY OF MILIAN FAMILY"

"Have mercy, have mercy, baby, have mercy, have mercy on me. Signed, Gaspar Jimenez."[/center]
How far did Miami come from the 1976 attempted assassination of Emilio Milián and this story I found by accident on the vicious battering of Cuban blogger in Miami, Pepe Varela?
Remember, this kind of news traditionally never gets out of Miami. It has always happened with a complete veil of secrecy surrounding these hideous bombings, shootings, and assassinations. It has never escaped the awareness of the FBI, however, who named Miami as "America's Murder Capital" during the 1980's.
