2. The problem with cryptocurrencies is that they are unregulated.

Cryptocurrencies are essentially a barter-economy where you trade virtual objects back and forth. It's not "money".

The big advantage of cryptocurrencies, being free from higher authorities, is also their greatest disadvantage: There are no regulations that prevent market-manipulation. There is no one responsible to keep the value stable.

Cryptocurrencies remind me a lot of the unregulated stock-market prior to the 1929 crash.
