He had better not adopt Macri's economic policies though, or Uruguayans will start referring to him as "Lacalle Poubreza" ('pouverty').

In neighboring Argentina, there are already early signs of recovery in some sectors.

Argentine industrial production, a right-leaning think tank estimated, rose by 4.8% in January - the best performance since 2013.

That should help Uruguay as well, given their own (mild) recession at the moment.
