It seems the hard-core right has been organizing and scheming ever since the fascist element nearly had the continent completely under its thumb then lost its grip as the people went through a quiet slow struggle toward freedom.
Here's hoping as the public starts gaining in experience and memory, the intervals of exploitative and oppressive kidnappings by the right will become weaker, shorter, and more easily overcome...
It should become clear early on where Presidente Pou is trying to take Uruguay. Hope the people who elected the former progressive Presidents won't hesitate to let him hear from them.
I enjoy this photo, as it looked at first as if Pou and his "better half" are sitting in the jump seat of the car until you see the tiny feet underneath the contraption. What's that all about? Are they actually walking behind the car? Is there a hole in the car floor and they are walking the car while pretending to ride?
I have to say, they should humble themselves and get their own car, like Mujica and stop pretending!

Hooray for President Mujica.

Appreciated pondering the term "Lacalle Poubreza." Good one.
His family is surely accustomed to being prominent in the ruling class there. Don't know if that impresses the masses or not.
Lacalle Pou, who spent many years in Uruguays congress, grew up in an intensely political family. His father, Luis Lacalle Herrera, was president from 1990 to 1995, and his mother, Julia Pou, was a senator.
His great-grandfather Luis Alberto de Herrera was a major figure in the National Party.
