or, conversely, declare that he is unable to continue serving as president. Right now all they are doing is lying, covering up, while trying to sort out who will replace him, and throw Cuba into the mix who desperately needs to have the energy subsidies going their way.

The opposition would not "snatch" power. There would be elections. My understanding is that polls show an advantage for Capriles over Maduro or Diosdado (God-given Hair) Cabello. However, whoever is the chavista candidate will benefit from the sympathy vote.

Anyway, the next Venezuelan president will not have an easy time of it as the currency will be devalued more than likely soon, financial reserves are down, and inflation will likely only get worse. and those aren't even the worse problems considering the level of violence and corruption.

If Capriles would happen to be elected, the country would be ungovernable in the near term given the entrenched corrupt chavista apparatus.
