Brazilian judge probed for blocking abortion for raped child

I despised seeing this in the article:

Lawyer Daniela Félix, who represents the 11-year-old’s family, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the child, who was 10 at the time she was raped this year, only noticed her pregnancy in its 22nd week.

The child’s mother took her to a hospital in the city of Florianópolis to get an abortion, but doctors said they could perform the procedure only up to the 20th week of pregnancy.

Felix said the family took the case to court within days, where Zimmer not only refused to allow the abortion but isolated the girl from her family in a state shelter.

So now the child is completely by herself, with only strangers overseeing her. She must be so frigtened.

It's good to learn Luis Inacio Lula da Silva supports women's rights, and has publicly stated it. Here's hoping there aren't so many evangelicals in Brazil, and there are a ton of 'em, including President Bolsonaro, of course, that they can prevail with the judge in butting into what isn't their business in this child's life.

I'll keep my eyes out for more, as it becomes available somewhere I can find it in English.
