SANTIAGO, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Sebastian Pinera opened a summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) here on Sunday with a tribute to Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela.

As the host of the event, Pinera said in his opening speech, "There is one president not here with us today, but whose vision and tenacity had a profound impact on the forging of the community: President Hugo Chavez."

"We are all praying that he can win his battle, perhaps the toughest of his life, which he is fighting with the strength and courage he has always shown, and that he can return as president of Venezuela," said Pinera.
