FORMER PERUVIAN PRESIDENT ALAN GARCIA UNDER INVESTIGATION

LIMA, Feb 6 (NNN-Prensa Latina) -- Peruvian former president Alan Garcia now faces an investigation about the origin of more than $800,000 USD he recently invested in the purchase of a large residence in Lima.

The veteran Social Democratic politician immediately reacted to the announcement of the inquiry and said he will give all necessary information to the Public Ministry about his revenues and even thanked the prosecutors.

Research "will show the transparency of my activities," said Garcia, who after his first government (1985-90) was prosecuted for illicit enrichment but was not convicted due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The start of the inquiry was revealed by the former prosecutor Ronald Gamarra, who noted that the aim is to establish the origin of the money used to purchase the residence.
