(although I suspect it would stand up), but everything I have read suggests that, if you add up what you as an American spend on basically everything, including taxes, and then compared that with what a similar Dane spends on everything, including taxes, you wold find that it's the United States which is expensive.

Health care alone - countless studies have demonstrated that is is much less expensive to deliver through a single payer (government) system than through insurance and copays, let alone with no insurance.
