It's great to hear it from someone who's experienced the devolution of teachers unions.

I actually am an organizer and I am pro-union (in theory)--but I'm for fighting unions that empower and listen to the rank and file. What we have in actuality is closer to a professional advocacy association, like the AMA. I enjoy organizing because it is an opportunity to empower my colleagues and to help resolve their grievances--something the CTA hardly seems interested in doing.

Btw, a lot of unions have traded the right to strike for binding arbitration.
