I think its too early to tell where the tone will go. OWS as a distinct recognizable movement is less than 6 months old. Spring of 2012, and into the election season are when things will heat up, especially if there is another painful global economic crisis or serious mid-east war.
Pitchforks and torches worked in the past, but an interconnected and educated angry populace has the advantage of outsmarting or outflanking the PTB. However, until a critical mass of people get pissed off enough at the system, our petty differences will keep us distracted and divided.
