Fuel is the second largest expense, trailing only behind labor. They were buying 500-600 million gallons of diesel per year and I remember how they mentioned that if they could even squeeze out only an extra 1/10 of a mile per gallon, it would add 20-30 million dollars to the company's bottom line.
