... as some would bury nuclear waste.

Charge a tax on plastic manufacturing to pay for its long term disposal.

Buried plastic could become this geological epoch's version of coal or oil.

Recycling plastic doesn't seem a sound idea. Even if you use it to make things like building materials, plastic microparticles will eventually slough off it and contaminate earth's environment.
