4. I was in Anchorage when the heat wave hit.

I used to live there 20 years ago and have made trips back to visit friends over the years. When I lived there 20 years ago the summers were mostly pretty chilly and rainy with some nice days in the low 70's sprinkled throughout the summer. A few years ago when I visited I mentioned that it felt warmer to me, but this summer's week long heat wave of temps in the upper 80's was bizarre. It was attributed to a high pressure dome, but the local meteorologist was not sure why it lingered, mentioned climate change being a possibility, said that if this happens again next summer he would feel more definite that it is climate change and not just a freak aberration.

Needless to say, we were all pretty miserable with no A.C. and having to keep windows closed due to bad air quality from wildfires. It was also depressing because we all agreed that we felt that we were witnessing climate change in action, seeing dying spruce trees due to the spruce bark beetle returning each year more vigorously. The winters are getting milder, Spring is coming sooner. The mosquitos and flies were nastier than I remember, as well.
