1. "traps with spring-loaded poison cartridges"

When we lived in the SD Black Hills this was used by the "state trapper". We were surrounded by state forest but a neighbor about 5 miles away was having problems with coyotes killing calves as soon as they were born. He called us to let us know the state trapper was setting these out. I went to see what it looked like. It was in a road killed deer and my question at the time, was what about the bald eagles. I was told that is a problem because they could be poisoned by it. We did have lots of bald eagles around and yes they would eat carrion.

Here in the Nebraska we also have a state trapper and I do not know if this is use but I would bet it is.

Last year he did ask to come on our property to shoot coyotes that again were killing newborn calves before they even got up. I said yes but didn't think to ask if they use that poison trap here.
