6. There's so much bad climate news to keep up with

I so often become overwhelmed.

I have no idea why this didn't get better coverage. It's huge! But I for one was not surprised in the least. Bottom line, we have done little other than mouth platitudes and then proceed with business as usual. Jim Hansen was furious while Michael Mann had a calmer, we-will-persevere type of response. Mann works very hard to maintain a certain level of optimism. I don't see how he does it. I tend to respond the same way Hansen does. He's been in this thing since the beginning and knows all too well how difficult it is to get people to really pay attention.

It's going to get very bad and stay that way for a very long time before it ever gets "better" - whatever "better" may be defined as in some distant future that we can barely imagine.
