I didn't say anything about congestion.

However, if that is an issue for you, the answer to that is the body style is not aerodynamic.

Since you are from Michigan I will give you a little background. Many decades ago I was an executive with an American manufacturer (first female exec in the auto industry). I recall Ford's van being re-styled to be aerodynamic. It actually was a beautiful design, if you're into car design. I recall when I saw the drawings in a meeting that we were told it would be 10 years in the making, because at that time (and maybe it still is) there is such a long lead time in designing a vehicle for production.

Then SUVs came along.

I'm like, WTF? What are we DOING?

And it's all because SUVs were sold to the American consumer market as making them look "rugged" and "tough" and "sporty."

Apparently suburbanites who drive to the city have the need to let everyone think they are climbing mountains on the weekend.

With such a body style you get poorer fuel mileage; I'm sure I don't have to point that out to a MichMan. Poorer fuel mileage means more pollution put into the air. For every mile we drive, we put out a pound of pollution. I hope that has improved, but that is the figure at one time.

Personally, I need to haul around garden tools, plants, etc., in my "retirement" job as a school garden director. I drive a station wagon that is aerodynamically designed, much like the Ford van I described in the second paragraph.
