3. Reality vs. Mr Watson's claims
Thu Jul 5, 2012, 09:20 AM
Jul 2012

Captain Paul Watson: That was the objective however this should be changed to: Unfortunately the illegal commercial whaling activities were interrupted several times by an anti-whaling group (SSCS)

Reality: The illegal activities of the SSCS disrupted the legal research actions of the ICR.

Captain Paul Watson: Two of the three harpoon vessels were taken out of the game for the whole season. Major victory.

Reality: Sighting Surveys are non-lethal and this data is desired and acknowledged by the IWC as very useful. So again the illegal activities of the SSCS disrupted real research.

Captain Paul Watson: Yes we forced them from west of Australia to the Ross Sea causing them to waste a great deal of fuel and time. That was our intention and it was realized.

Reality: The 2011/2012 plan was for the region to the west of Australia, so the Japanese followed the shortest and most efficient way to reach the designated area. No fuel or time wasted.

Reality: hundreds of whales were still legally killed in addition to the hundreds legally killed in the North Pacific where for some reason the SSCS doesn't do anything.

And from the current IWC meeting, South Korea is planning on starting their own research whaling activity. Totality is SSCS fails again while wasting millions of dollars that could do some real good in protecting actual endangered marine life. But they did keep themselves in the news and get some good video for their ego, oh sorry I mean for their TV show.
