In wild systems in the coastal rain forest, it's been observed that bears take spawning fish into the forest away from streams to eat. Whatever is left of the carcasses then rot bring much needed nutrients to the depleted soil of the rain forest. It's pretty amazing to think that this is how things have evolved over time.
