2 Million Gallons Of Hog Waste/Yr From Farm Next To Buffalo National River; AR Pleads Helplessness [View all]

EDIT

At issue, the potentially harmful impact of a hog farm along the Buffalo River. C&H Hog Farm, owned by Cargill, is a confined animal feeding operation also known as CAFO.

It is already built on the river's watershed and will hold 6500 hogs. The farm is estimated to generate about 2-million gallons of waste a year.

Some people are afraid that waste will spill into the River. "If you don't want any type of permitted facilities in that watershed, you're going to have to enact laws to do that.

We don't have the authority to deny a permit just because its in a watershed that we would rather it not be in," said Teresa Marks with Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
