The purpose of the XL pipeline is to make tar sands available on the global market. As it stands without the pipeline, we purchase most of it at a reduced price. Opening the sale of Canadian tar sands oil to the global market will spike it's price and increase our overall price here in the US.

The XL pipeline is a pipeline of profit for the oil companies built on the backs of the 99%. It will not help the US in any way.
