And then it's a big deal.

Like you said, people have been building fusors at home for years. What this young man did wasn't revolutionary or ground-breaking.

The problem is that they always use more energy to run than they give back, and until that problem is solved fusion in it's current state doesn't compare in any way to the other energy sources you listed.
