Most areas north of Concord are pretty conservative which is unsurprising given that its a largely rural area. Even when Berlin was still a functioning mill town with its labor unions, the culture was still very conservative.
--
Though small the New England states still maintain rural areas which create a political demographic split. Even Rhode Island still has some rural areas which still tend to vote republican. With the exception of Springfield/Amherst area, areas west of Worcester are still quite conservative. North western Connecticut, all areas west and north of Portland Maine, The western parts of Vermont and the north east kingdom.. all conservative strongholds. They just don't have the population to effect electoral votes and senatorial elections.
