I recommend a great book
Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World by Mark Kurlansky

I read it when I discovered my Norwegian ancestors were all Cod fisherman. The book explains the role Cod has had in history (salted cod allowed long sea voyages of discovery) and how endangered it is today.
