Nice graphic, but to your point - more to be gained in improvements in heating and cooling of homes, offices and factories - which is were most of our energy consumption goes (less than 30% in transportation).

A good portion of the oil glut is due to improvements in mpg of our cars (cash for clunkers was a good start). The same thing needs to be done for our buildings. There needs to be a similar program for not only for all new buildings but also buildings being refurbished. Reduce the amount of energy wasted and then renewables can easily become a bigger piece of the supply.
